Our long awaited kitchen remodel is almost here! The cabinets are ordered, the granite counter tops are picked…now it’s time to decide on flooring, backsplash, and everything else.
At this point, I am tired of making decisions. But I’m rallying because I know that to make hasty ones will be a big mistake, and I don’t want to regret them. So I headed to two tile places, and came home with three floor tile samples and two for the backsplash.
After a few days of slipping and stumbling over the three tiles I placed on my kitchen floor, we picked a winner. We also chose a lovely tile backsplash. And I actually mean “we” – Matt had definite opinions which fortunately aligned with mine. I’m not used to this level of involvement from my usually opinion-less husband, but I guess two heads are better than one.
And then there were more choices to be made. Combing through catalogs and websites for cabinet hardware was a nightmare, but I finally picked three possibilities that Matt liked too and ordered samples. After seeing them in person, I made my choice and that was done. I ordered a custom kitchen table from a local store, since I couldn’t find one in the size we need. Surprisingly, the price was on par with ready made tables. I chose classic black kitchen chairs from Crate and Barrel.
I finally decided on lighting for over the island, but then the thought of looking for another light repulsed me. I don’t feel like trying to coordinate another pendant light with the island fixture. So we are going with a recessed light over the sink, as well as over the kitchen table. So all that’s left to do is choose and order a dishwasher (this is the only appliance we are replacing). I’m not even thinking about paint color until the whole thing is finished.
The kitchen remodel start date is set for April 8th, so we will completely empty out the kitchen the weekend of April 5-7 and relocate to the living and dining rooms. But for now I am going to relax and enjoy the calm before the storm…

Winner, winner!! I’m coming to your house for chicken dinner (Qdoba carry out of course)! By the way, when’s the last time you built a snowman??

I’m salivating! I look forward to the day when we can remodel our kitchen! It sounds and looks like so much fun, but being very indecisive, I bet I will really struggle. Good luck!

Stephanie – thank you! Ellen – I can’t remember the last time I built a snowman. I avoid playing in the snow whenever possible.

I remodeled my kitchen a couple of years ago. I built the cabinets myself, copied the tile my boyfriend has in his house, and only picked ONE color card for paint. I’m much better off when there are only TWO choices! I love yours – it will look fabulous! Stopping by from SITS…

Built the cabinets yourself – wow! I can barely build a snowman. I know what you mean about having less choices – I am so sick of making decisions! Thanks for stopping by, Cher.

Thank you Patti! And happy birthday 😉

Love every single choice, Dana! That light is going to look especially nice with the subway tile backsplash. Hope you all survive living without a kitchen for a few weeks.
