This post is almost two years in the making. December 28, 2012. The four of us were bundled in the car, touring neighborhoods and oohing and aahing at Christmas lights. We were jamming to the Yuletide tunes, and a little ditty came on the radio. None of us had ever heard of it, but the name on the dashboard display made us laugh like 11 year old boys. Only one of us was an 11 year old boy, but that’s irrelevant.
This is the song that started it all:
My radio dashboard shows sixteen characters per line, and that occasionally results in humorous song titles being displayed. So this song is actually I Believe in Fat(her Christmas) by Greg Lake. Because I am simple folk, these titles amuse me more than you may expect. So for nearly two years, I have been taking photos of song titles that make me giggle, with the intention of writing a superficial post at some point in the future.
The future is now, my friends. I present to you
Wacky Song Titles
I’ve Got a Rock (n’ Roll Heart) by Eric Clapton
While the kids didn’t get it, Matt and I immediately assumed our Charlie Brown voices and muttered, “I got a rock.” How do my kids not know that? I’ve failed them, clearly. Oh, Great Pumpkin, where are you when I need you?
Mo Money Mo P(roblems) by Notorious B.I.G.
Astute readers will notice that this is not from my car’s dashboard. That is because I shared my silly idea with my friend Ellen, who snapped a pic of her own radio because she knew I would love it. Who knew that the amount of money one has correlates with their urine output?
Kiss and Say Goo(dbye) by the Manhattans
Yes, this one is silly, but it made me laugh. And because it is played often on XM 17 (The Love Station, of course), it pops up once a month or so. It’s still funny to me every time; it really doesn’t take much.
Build Me Up Butt(ercup) by The Foundations
This one must be the follow up to I Believe in Fat.
Your Body is a W(onderland) by John Mayer
I apologize for the poor quality of this one; I must have had one too many cups of coffee that day. I’m not sure what a body that is a W looks like, but I don’t think it’s a positive thing. When I saw this one, all I could think of were the talking letters on Sesame Street. Do they still have those?
Lost in this Mom(ent) by Big & Rich
I suppose if the mom in question has a built up butt and a body like a W, one could get lost in her.
Baby I Love Your (Way by) Big Mountain
Matt’s favorite title. I’m not even going to touch this one.
Want another completely silly post? Check out my Week as Told By My Feet – it’s only marginally more intelligent than this one.
Lillian Connelly says
This is very entertaining!
Dana says
Thanks, Lillian. That’s pretty much the only thing you’ll get out of this post. Completely useless and silly, but good for a giggle.
Jana says
Doesn’t everyone “Kiss and say Goo?” If they don’t, they should!
Dana says
Yes they should!
Roshni says
LOL!! Hilarious! Now I’m sad that my radio doesn’t display the names!!
Dana says
Seriously, Roshni – it may be my favorite thing about my car. Sad but true.
Mary Hill says
I love my “fat” too. LOL 😛
Dana says
I’m not usually loving mine! 😉
Corinne Rodrigues says
Ah just what I need to read just now, Dana! Thanks for the giggles.
Dana says
My pleasure, Corrinne!
Tara Newman says
This post was “good times.” Not sure what’s funnier…the song titles or imagining you snapping pictures as they come on the display! And the post title is PERFECT.
Dana says
The post title creds go to my husband – that’s his favorite title of the bunch. And if you look closely, on some of the pics you can see the reflection of my hand and phone in the display 🙂
Kate says
Too funny!! Your Body is a W made me think that it is a win. I wish my car did this!
Dana says
I do love my XM radio. I can never remember the names of songs, so the display is perfect for me.
Kimberly says
HAHAHAH!!! Oh the fun I could have with that. We lost our beloved Sirus radio after our 3 month trial which turned into a year trial because they forgot to pull the plug and we “forgot” to tell them.
Dana says
At least you got nine free months! Every year they jack up the price, and I call and cancel. Then they offer it at the same introductory price, and I take it!
Kathleen says
I hope somebody loves my big mountain!
Dana says
I hope so too, Kathleen. 🙂
Akaleistar says
What a fun photo idea! These titles definitely made me smile.
Dana says
So glad – that was my goal!
Julia Tomiak says
Only a clever and astute observer could appreciate the humor you have found here! Thank you for sharing your brilliance with us.
And yes, I’m laughing like an 11 year old.
Dana says
Yay! Just another reason to like you, Julia.
Chris Carter says
So, I can’t believe this happened AGAIN!! I had your link opened this morning- ran off, had to take kid to school, go to store to get oil that I DIDN’T have to make the brownies, then get back to actually wash my face and put fresh make up on to then go back to school and get said kid for a doc appointment, and now? I’m BACK!!
And guess what was left open?
Hee hee… It’s a THING now!
Hilarious song titles!!
Dana says
I do that all the time, Chris. When I reply to a comment, I open up that commenter’s blog. It could be a day or two before I get to it, but then I won’t forget.
Shae says
Silly posts are the great way to start the Friday! Love everything about this! I think my favorite would be “Lost in this Mom” it really changes the song all together! Really cute post! Love it!
Dana says
Thanks, Shae! I like a silly post every once in awhile.
Brittnei says
Hahahaha! This is pretty hilarious. I definitely laughed on these. This is something me and my husband would probably joke about as well. 🙂
Dana says
Goofy laughs are always good, right?
Leslie says
This is too funny! I’m never going to be able to look at my car’s audio display the same way again.
Dana says
That was my goal, Leslie. If you ever see a funny one, let me know!
My Inner Chick says
I believe in “FAT.”
It’s about time curves are in!
I LIKE!!!!!!!! xxx
Dana says
Funny how a few of these had to do with physical attributes!
Tamara says
I used to love to play games with the satellite titles! Ah, I’m so glad it wasn’t just me!!! I miss that. My minivan is hopelessly uncool and doesn’t show song titles (in 16 characters or less!)
Dana says
So you are the first person who has told me that they do this too. Thank you for making me feel normal, Tamara! Although normal is overrated, I think. Yep, minivans are uncool but I wouldn’t have survived the toddler through elementary school years without mine. Now I have a cooler SUV.
Avada Kedavra says
Haha this was fun. Even my car truncates names and I end up giggling but I never got this idea of taking photos. Must try that sometime. 🙂
Dana says
Yes, but only if you’re not driving!
Nicki Gilbert says
Fan-fucking-tastic, Dana! Thanks for the giggles this morning :).
Dana says
My pleasure, Nicki! I like being good for a giggle.
Kim says
HaHa – love this!! Those would make my car of boys laugh, too!!!
Dana says
Yes, I have a similar sense of humor to teenage boys. I’m not proud of it, but it is what it is.
Rabia @TheLiebers says
What a great way to start your day! Looking to see what silly messages the radio has for you! Love it!
Dana says
A laugh is always a good thing, right?
Kristi Campbell says
I’m so going to start taking photos and send them to you! Love it!
Dana says
Please do! As I said to Mo, I want to make that my “thing” on Facebook.
Mo at Mocadeaux says
Hilarious, Dana! Don’t you just love when something completely innocuous and unexpected makes you laugh? I have a particular affinity to the “Mo’ Money Mo’ P” entry for obvious reasons with “Build Me Up Butt” as a very close second! The radio in my husband’s car does this same thing. Now I’m going to have to pay better attention.
Dana says
If you ever come across a good one, will you share it with me? I’d love to make it “a thing” on my FB page. I don’t have “a thing,” and I think I’m missing out.
Mo at Mocadeaux says
You got it!
Allie says
That is hilarious. For my favorite I am torn between Build Me Up Butt and lost in this MOm.
Dana says
They are both pretty good. They had to be funny to at least two people in the car before I would take a photo!
Bev says
Haha, this is great! I particularly like “Build Me Up Butt.” Perfect for me!
Dana says
That one cracked me up! Well, they all did. I’m easily amused.
Tricia says
Oh my goodness I love this! I’m laughing out loud and my children are looking at my funny. These sorts of things make my day 🙂
Dana says
Mine too, Tricia! I knew I liked you 🙂
Laura says
I love simple folk! Going to have Build Me Up Buttercup in my head all day!
Dana says
That’s one of my favorites! At least it’s not that ear worm from the Lego movie. Crap – now that song is in my head.
Janine Huldie says
Now you made me wish I didn’t cancel Sirius/XM Radio just to see what crazy titles I could find! But seriously, thank you for the giggle this morning. How I needed it 🙂
Dana says
It’s always good to start the morning with a giggle, isn’t it?
Ana Lynn says
Those would amuse me too. As my mother in law says: “Simple things for simple minds” and I couldn’t agree more. I think I’ll never be able to sing Build Me Up Buttercup again without thinking about this post.
Dana says
Ha! You’re welcome (or I’m sorry!).
