Mom always said I was just like you
Logical, objective, left-brained
Thinker more than feeler.
But after the heart attack
You held your granddaughter tighter
And protected that heart
So it could love three more grandchildren
More feeling
More I love yous
More hugs
And more time
To be a friend
A husband
A grandfather
My Dad.
This post is part of βKetchup with Us.β This writing prompt was to tell about a great dad in your life in 57 words or less.
Given our shared love of math and numbers, I used exactly 57 words, Dad.
Love the photos! Your dad sounds pretty amazing π Hope you had a great day with him!
He is, and we did – thanks!
This is beautiful. I went with a different angle and was a major smartass with my Father’s Day post, but my dad knows and understands me…and he’s got no choice but to accept me, b/c he made me the dumbass I am today. Haha. Great post!
Smartass is good too…but it’s harder to do in 57 words or less, so I went with sappy. But now I’m going to read your post!
I can’t tell what’s making me tear up more- the beautiful poem, the content of your beautiful poem, or the fact that your mom commented.
Aww, thank you Jean. My dad commented on my personal Facebook page – he said “This made my right brain light up with joy.” π
Beautiful post. I was very close to my Dad. He seemed to be the only person in my family who really accepted me and let me be myself. He died 3 years ago. Father’s Day leaves such a hole and void in my heart now. It’s easy to fall into a depression on Father’s Day but yesterday instead I tried to remember all of the happy times we had together. It helped.
I found you on Mom’s Monday Mingle. My post is for Healthy Cajun Creole (a recipe I wish I had been able to share with my Dad – he would have loved it!). The link is http://noskinnies.com/blog/2013/6/5/creole-my-way. I hope you’ll check it out!
Thanks.

I will definitely check out the recipe! I can imagine that Father’s Day is tough for you and others who no longer have their fathers in their lives – your dad sounds like he was a fabulous guy. Thanks for stopping by, Tammy!
What sweet pictures. This entry was perfect. Thank you for sharing! Happy Father’s Day!
Always a pleasure, Mel!
Dana, reading your post and seeing the pictures really brought a huge smile to my face. Thank you for sharing. Your dad is adorable!
I’m glad it made you smile, Catherine – I think my dad is pretty great too. π
Oh how I love your writing! I bet your dad will be so proud of this post. It’s amazing, isn’t it how it takes grandchildren to make a parent take better care of themselves? My parents were 4pk a day smoker. Then I had Allie they realized oops better stop. They stopped cold freaking turkey. I have never been prouder of them. I hope you and the fathers in your life had a wonderful weekend
My dad loved the post, and I had a lovely morning with him. Hope you had a great weekend too!
That was absolutely lovely, Dana. Pictures and all. And my dad would totally appreciate the preciseness of the 57 words as well.
Thanks for linking up with us again. Happy Father’s Day, Dana’s dad! π
It was my pleasure – I was counting on the prompt being Dad-oriented this time!
Ah, so sweet! My father passed away of a heart attack when I was three, almost four, and I wish he could have held us more, and his grandkids.
I have read about your dad (both of them) on our blog, Tamara – and you have helped me remember to cherish the time I have with my dad even more. So thank you for that!
Very beautiful! I don’t know what I’d do without my father or grandfathers.
You are lucky to have such great men in your life, Anna!
Beautiful, Dana, just beautiful.
Thanks, Karen π
Lovely post Dana! It’s a great tribute to your dad and what he has meant to you and your children! I love the pictures!
Thanks, Michelle – I had to dig deep to find the older picture π
Great post, I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have my dad.
Me neither, Karen!
Those pictures are gorgeous! And you summed it up perfectly: protecting your heart so you can do eve more loving. π
Thanks, Melissa – my dad takes much better care of himself now that he has grandchildren he wants to see grow up!
You did it again, dana! Beautiful.
Thank you, Mom. <3
Lovely! I thought it was a very touching post. Happy Father’s Day to the men in your life.
And to the men in yours, Kate!
Oh, so beautiful Dana and definitely hit home for me a bit after the last couple of weeks with my own dad. Just helps having more time and couldn’t agree more on this. Happy Father’s Day to you dad!! Lovely pictures, too!!
Thanks, Janine. You are the fastest commenter ever – most of the time you are my first one π Happy Father’s Day to your dad and husband!
