After six months of planning, demolition, and installation, our kitchen remodel is finally finished! I took you step by step through the entire process; if you want to catch up you can read all the old posts:

Kitchen Demolition – and we’re off!
My last post was right after the demolition. We were without a kitchen for three and a half weeks, and then the rest of the install was done once we were moved back in. First the new floor was installed:
And then the new cabinets went in:
Granite templates were measured, then we waited a week for it to be measured out and cut. I visited the warehouse and laid out on the slab where the island and the counter tops would be.
Granite was installed, sink and appliances re-installed (only new one is the dishwasher), and we were back in business! Some scheduling glitches postponed the backsplash and molding installation, but once that was done, I picked my paint color (thanks, Ellen!). Painting done within a few days, and the kitchen remodel was DONE!
So whether you read to this point or skipped ahead to the photos, here they are. I love before and afters, so I made sure I took pictures in the same place each time so you can see the transformation. If you click on an individual photo, you can see it larger.
Here are a few more pics:
Let’s see if I can keep the cabinet doors and hardware this clean!
If I still had babies I could wash one in here!
My coffee station – mugs in cupboard and k-cups in drawers – everything I need at my fingertips so I can get that java in me asap!
The old island was rectangular and slightly smaller. The new island is almost a square, and the trash/recycling is underneath.
The biggest change was demolishing the closet pantry and creating this workstation. I especially love the cubbies for papers I need at my fingertips but not spread all over the counter. The mess is contained but I don’t forget about things that need my attention.
And here’s one final shot of the whole room.
I plan to add some accent color with accessories and wall decor, but for now I’m just going to bask in the glow of my brand new kitchen. If you live nearby, come on over for a cup of coffee and see it in person!

Lovely! Thanks to your new website design I easily found this post. I like that “browse around”. Anyway, love your new kitchen too. Amazing how a lighter paint color opens up the room. And don’t you love have the fridge “built in”. I actually use the cabinets above and the stuff in the front I don’t have to get on a step ladder.
Dana says
I can reach the stuff in the front too. But a step ladder is a must for those high cabinets – I’m barely 5 foot 2 so I can’t reach, even in my highest wedges!
Mary says
Thanks I have similar cabinets!
Dana says
You’re welcome!
Mary says
What is the paint color in the kitchen
Mary says
What is the paint color?
Dana says
Mary – It’s Benjamin Moore Willow Creek – #1468.

Beautiful! I wish I had your temerity to get the job done. We need a makeover – badly – but money (natch) and my impatience are going to keep it from happening anytime soon. But I got some good ideas from watching yours! 🙂
Dana says
Thanks, Melissa. This remodel was what inspired me to start this blog initially, so I could document the process for my sister for when she’s ready to do her kitchen. Clearly I’ve strayed way off focus 🙂
Melanie says
You know, you had a lovely kitchen before – but I love how what you have done has really brightened up the room. Just lovely!
Dana says
Thanks, Melanie – the old kitchen wasn’t horrible, but it was showing its age. I love my new one!
Alexa (Kat) says
holy wow!! I love it and am so jealous! I would love to remodel our kitchen! I love the addition of the work space! NICE.
Dana says
Thank you, Alexa – I love it too!
Leslie says
Fantastic remodel! I especially love the new paint color.
Dana says
Thank you Leslie – me too. I don’t usually do neutral, so I’m going to bring some color in with accessories soon.
Lisa Newlin says
Love, Love, LOVE the transformation! I swear it looks bigger with the lighter wall colors.
My favorite part is the light above the island. It’s so contemporary but kind of has that Tiffany’s glam feel to it.
These pictures make me want to come over and let you make me something. Does apple crisp work for you?
Dana says
Apple crisp works for me. Anything I don’t have to make works for me.
Kristi Campbell says
WOW. I dated a guy who started his own kitchen remodeling company after being pissed off that he’d continually been laid off in corporate and he had gorgeous designs…but this is beyond awesome. Love love love it. When we did our kitchen, we also went from that socket thing to full-to-ceiling cabinets and awesome new room. Great job (although I liked your before one too – you worked that shiza big time 😉
Dana says
Why thank you, Kristi. You know how to flatter a girl 🙂
Shay says
Love love love the “coffee station” and the “work station.” I have my own little coffee station with a Keurig and a spot for K-cups, but I would love a little work station like that. Mine is currently the kitchen table. 🙂
Dana says
I work at the kitchen table too, but I can put all my “work” in that area to keep it from spreading over the rest of the counters. It forces me to keep things neat and organized – or at least that’s the plan.
Tamara says
I read it! So impressive. Really beautiful. I think I would become obsessed with keeping the handles as pristine as possible..I just couldn’t help it. You should see the food fingerprints my kids leave on the beautiful fridge here! Way to go – it must be so rewarding to see the plans emerge into an actual place.
Dana says
Thank you Tamara – I did love seeing it all come together. Now I just have to add some accent color, but I need a break first!
Kimbra says
Wow, I believe your kitchen is the size of my entire apartment… It was beautiful before and it is absolutely gorgeous now, congrats on having it finished!
Dana says
Thank you so much, Kimbra – I’m so happy with it.
Jennifer says
Beautiful! Love the dark floors with the light cupboards.

Thanks, Jenn. I love the dark floor – hides all the dirt!
Rosey says
Oh my gosh, it’s GORGEOUS!
Dana says
Thank you Rosey!
Cheryl Nicholl says
Well, do you love it as much as I do? Holy Cow! The cabinet style, the wood color, the floor material and color, the tops, the new shape of the kitchen island, the repositioning of some appliances to include the fridge looking ‘built-in”, the Drum light (don’t get me started about the drum light), the organization,….. Perfection Dana. I’m a proud follower.
Dana says
I do love it, Cheryl – thank you for all of your kind words. The drum light is awesome, and it’s funny because when I wrote a post with various choices and asked readers to vote, this one was not a favorite. But I went with my gut and I’m so happy with the way it turned out.
Cheryl Nicholl says
Well your ‘gut’ seems to be in fine working order Dana. I’d stick with it!
Katia says
It’s so elegant, I love it! I was going to say I’d want to do everything in that kitchen, but then I thought it sounded dirty, when all I meant was I’d want to eat there, sleep there, watch TV and blog there. I love the before vs. the after too. 🙂
Dana says
Thanks for clarifying, Katia 🙂 I would have gone there in my head otherwise!
Kate says
I have been through kitchen renovation…Ugh! It is so nice when it is finally completed. It looks great. Beautiful granite and great backsplash!
Dana says
Thanks so much Kate. This was our first, and hopefully the last. I am so pleased with my choices, and relieved that it’s all done!
Ellen says
Well done Dana! Hadn’t seen the new table yet — and it turned out great. Black was a good call. Loved seeing/hearing/discussing/participating in all the fun you had on this massive transformation. Ready to tackle the fireplace room?
Dana says
Thank you, Ellen, and thanks for your help! Not ready to tackle the next room yet – September maybe? Let’s take the summer off.
Michelle says
It looks gorgeous! I love how you documented it as you went along! I wish we had done that when we did ours. Enjoy it!!
Dana says
Thanks, Michelle – documenting the remodel was actually what inspired me to start my blog. Clearly that’s not the focus, but it gave me the kick in the pants to get it started!
Kerri says
I LOVE IT!!! You must be so happy to be no longer cooking in your living room. Now save this picture and every time a kid puts something on the counter say NO THIS IS WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE
More than congrats, my friend! I hope you have a moment to just sit and enjoy
Dana says
I am sitting and enjoying right now, Kerri. I love it so much I move my laptop into the kitchen while the kids are at school so I can look over it all.
Considerer says
It’s utterly gorgeous 🙂 Enjoy it to the max
Dana says
I will – thank you!
karen says
WOW!!! What a kitchen, that is kitchen you can cook and hang out in. Looks amazing and what a transformation.
Dana says
Maybe I will enjoy cooking more – but probably not 🙂 Either way, I like being in the kitchen a lot more now!
Michelle Liew says
And it looks great! Thanks for sharing, Dana!
Dana says
Thanks, Michelle. I couldn’t wait to show it off 🙂
MaryAnne says
Love it!!!!!
Great job!
Dana says
Thanks, MaryAnne. Can’t wait to see your deck/patio when it’s all done!
TAM says
WoW. Your kitchen looks awesome. I am jealous. 🙂 It looks so spacious and airy. Love it.
Dana says
Thank you, Tam. I love it too!
Janine Huldie says
Wow, Dana this is so impressive and such a gorgeous transformation. Seriously, if I did live closer I would so stop by to see it in person. So happy you were able to get this awesome remodel and by the way that work station is to die for. Love it (all of it)!!!
Dana says
Thank you Janine – I’m loving it too!
