A little over five years ago, I wrote this:
One hundred – it’s a milestone number. In early elementary school, my kids’ teachers made a big deal about the 100th day of school. They had special activities on that day that were tailored to the grade level. They asked the kids to bring in one hundred of something, or made paper crowns with “100” on them, or paper glasses with the zeroes as the eye holes. The day was a celebration that was a welcome respite from the winter doldrums.
The school year begins today for my kids, but it’s also my very own one hundred celebration.
This is my 100th post on Kiss my List!
Today I am looking back at this post because my last post was number 400. FOUR HUNDRED. Five years ago,ย I was dorky about the whole thing, which should not be a surprise. I wrote:
That’s a pretty big deal for me, and I think it deserves a celebration. So I made myself a crown…
And glasses…
And I counted out 100 things. Pistachios were on hand at the time.
I will not list 100 things about me, because I’m too lazy and just not that interesting.
I will not have a giveaway in honor of my 100th post, but if you’d like me to sign my crown and send it to you, let me know.
I WILL thank you for reading at least one of the one hundred posts. How do you measure up? If you’ve read:
One post: Welcome! My posts usually have a bit more substance. I like to mix it up – humor, deep thoughts, book reviews, helpful tips…whatever I’m feeling at the moment.
2-20 posts: Welcome back! Either you’re a relative newcomer, or you can’t decide if you like this blog or not. I understand.
21-50 posts:ย Hey there! Thanks for being a once a week kinda reader. I know you’re busy, so I appreciate you taking the time to visit me regularly. Either that or I stalk your blog, and you feel obligated to visit me back. I’m okay with that too.
51-90 posts: I love you! You are smart, good looking, witty, sexy – the whole package.
91-100 posts: Hi Mom and Dad!
It’s been a great ride so far. I’m enjoying flexing my writing muscles, and I appreciate the support and positive feedback I’ve received from those of you who know me personally. And to the wonderful women (and a few men) bloggers who I have connected with over the first one hundred posts – what an unexpected blessing it has been to meet all of you.
I seldom write goofy posts like these anymore, but I was young and immature in my early forties. I read through the comments on this post dated August 26, 2013, and was happy to find quite a few from bloggers with whom I still keep in touch. Lizzi, Tamara, Lisa, Janine, Catherine…and the two women who host the only linkup in which I still participate, Kristi and Kenya. This week’s Finish the Sentence Friday prompt is to share an old post, so I went back to the first August of this blog, and found this gem.
I wrote 100 posts in the first eight months, and 300 more posts over the course of the next five years. I’ve slowed down, for sure, but I’m not going anywhere. If you are a newer reader, welcome. If you’ve been with me since the beginning, or anytime over the last 400 posts, thank you!

Congrats on reaching this milestone. It’s always kinda fun to look back and see how we’ve progress. ๐
What ever happened to that crown?
Dana says
Ha – it was recycled a long time ago!
Tamara says
That 100 day celebration thing was so new to me when Scarlet started kindergarten! Now I’m more used to it.
Well congrats to 100 posts and Cassidy easily eats pistachios 100 at a time.
And now congrats to 400.. and he can probably eat 400 of them too.
I’m so glad we do keep in touch.
xoxo
Dana says
Me too, Tamara.
Deborah says
Geez..400?!? I haven’t counted, but I’m well south of 50. I bow to the Master…
Dana says
Oh, there are plenty of bloggers well past 400. Slow and steady for me, though.
Alison Hector says
Congrats, Dana! It’s always a joy to read your posts. Here’s to another 400… and more!
Dana says
Thanks Alison!
Mardra says
Yea You and the Blog! That’s excellent dedication so much living history. Well done. ๐
Dana says
Thank you Mardra!

I want to read the original to see what I wrote. And now I want to see how goofy my 100th was, I wrote one too. I giggled because there was an newbie enthusiasm in our early writing like we were talking to the whole entire world and not just a few people and our mom’s and dad’s. This was cute, it made me smile.
Dana says
I deleted the original – I don’t want a record of it! I’ve done that with a few posts that were just not worth keeping around. And you’re right – there was a newbie enthusiasm. Although more people were reading my blog a few years ago than now, but the drop off is the reciprocal blogger – a read for a read. That’s not important to me anymore.
Andi says
Congrats Dana on your 400 post! You are a terrific writer and I really enjoy reading your posts.
Dana says
I really appreciate that, Andi!
Vickie says
400! Wow. I never thought to count – there must be something on my site that will tell me how any posts I’ve posted – that I don’t know about. I don’t think your 100th was a goofy post, it’s an accomplishment and there is never a wrong time to wear a crown. This 100th day of school thing must be relatively new. I have heard of it a few times over the last few years but we certainly never had anything like that when I was a kid – you know, back in the days when we walked 5 miles up hill both ways. They did not have anything like that when DC was in school either.
Dana says
I do think it is fairly new – the last 10 years or so. I don’t really get it, but it was a good jumping off point for this post!
Darshana Suresh says
Haha, congrats. I love the glasses and hat you made. Wishing you luck to reach a hundred more milestones ๐
Dana says
Those were in my crafty days…thank you for the good wishes!
Nina says
Woo-hoo! Congrats on 400!
Dana says
Thank you Nina!
Kristi Campbell says
Had to chuckle at “hi mom and dad!” I used to post a lot more too – almost every day. I remember thinking I’d always do that, but now? I’m good with once a week for Finish the Sentence. And some of my earliest posts were so short and silly. We’ve come a long way, Baby. I’m glad we met early on. I think I’m up there with mom and dad status. Or pretty darn close, anyway! Thanks for linking up!
Dana says
I think you’re up there, too. It’s easier to keep up with other bloggers when they only post once a week – I don’t have the time to read for hours everyday.
I’m so glad we met early on too. xoxo
Allie says
Just call me Mom and Dad:)! Happy 400! XOXO, Allie
Dana says
Thanks Mom!
Allie says
Oh this is so great! You are a brave woman because I don’t think I would want to look back at my really old posts!! We’ve come a long way baby ๐ Congrats on still being here and I love “91-100 Hi Mom and Dad!” < — LOL!!
Dana says
I think it’s fun to look at old posts – it shows my growth as a writer ๐ Yes, we have come a long way!
Janine Huldie says
Aw, happy 400 and glad to still be here and plan on being here for the next 400, too now ๐
Dana says
Thank you Janine! I’m glad you’re here too.
